Just a few minutes away from the suburbs of Sparks is a fun and challenging trail system open to OHV's, hikers and mountain bikers. This area is one of the few in Sparks that allows the recreation of OHV's, making this a very popular destination for motorized recreation. Hikers and mountain bikers generally do not frequent the area, but that doesn't mean it's not worth the visit! Once you get past the hustle and bustle at the start of the trail head, the trails climb through the canyon to the summit of the Spanish Springs Peak. Traversing to the peak is very accessible with an easy to follow trail. As mentioned, motorized and non-motorized recreation is allowed in the Spanish Springs Canyon, but there are designated single and double track trails. Please stick to the trails for your recreational activity.
An easy, family-friendly trail worth checking out is the Pah Rah interpretive loop at the south end of the park off of Hans Berry Rd. A parking lot and picnic area mark the trailhead for this trail. The entire loop is about .5 miles long and dirt.
The area where the trails begin can be quite busy with OHV's and recreational target practice. If you are hiking or mountain biking, be very aware of your surroundings coming on and off the trail and keep all pets on a leash until it is safe to unleash them.
