This 4 acre park is located in the heart of downtown Genoa. The Mormon Station was first established in 1851 as a major trading post along the California trail. The area quickly grew to a population of around 50 people and the area had become an actual town fully stocked with a hotel, a couple black smith shops, two to three liveries and a hotel! Unfortunately around June 1910, a majority of the town was burned down in a fire. Only a few remnants remained which can be seen at the state parks museum. Today, the Mormon Station State Historical Park is a representation of what life used to be like in the mid 1800's with only a few original buildings remaining.
Whether you are looking to learn a bit of hidden history or just have a nice picnic underneath 100 year old apple trees, this state historic park is well worth the visit!
