Description

This newly branded accessible trail extends 5-miles from Morgan Mill Preserve to the Mexican Dam. Along the way there are a series of ten interpretive panels, and two high water markers explain the value of flood plains and Open Space and describe the cultural and natural history of the river corridor. The trail consists of six segments: Empire Ranch, Eagle Creek, Riverview, Buzzy’s Ranch, Silver Saddle Ranch, and Mexican Ditch. The Buzzy’s Ranch Segment is listed in Audubon’s Birdability website which is “...committed to making the birding community and the outdoors accessible, safe, welcoming and inclusive for everybody and every body”.

This trail network intertwines the Carson River Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Ambrose Carson River Natural Area, Silver Saddle Ranch and Prison Hill trails together. This area is open to all non-motorized activity types and provides the perfect place for a casual walk or a trail running destination. Walk along the beautiful Carson River, teaming with beautiful cotton wood trees and through historic ranches still full of cattle and horses. The trail surface on the west side of the river is compacted sand and is very well maintained and signed.

The Ambrose nature trails are less popular and cater mostly to equestrians and hikers. They are located directly along the east shore of the Carson River and the trail surface is mostly sandy. During high precipitation years, these trails may become washed out and impassible.
