Description

Fist settled in the early 1860's, Caliente was home to a few large ranches and a few mining camps. By the early 1900's, a major railroad and post office was established helping to make Caliente one of the biggest cities in Lincoln county by 1910. Today, you can see see the remnants of the old railroad and the historic train depot that was built in 1923. Caliente still remains the largest city in Lincoln county with a population of around 1,000 residents.

There are several parks and mountain bike trail systems that surround the city. This park systems trail takes you from the Pool Park and Caliente Mountain Bike Skills park, past the Dixon park and along the river. It continues along the main street in Caliente where it eventually crosses the road bringing you past the Historic Depot to the Heritage Park. From this area you can access mountain biking trails on the back side of Kershaw-Ryan State Park. For more non-motorized trails, the Barnes Canyon trail system is located just east of Caliente along Highway 93.

Thousands of miles of motorized trails surround Caliente making this the perfect place for races and events that are held annually. Fishing, boating and rock climbing are also very popular activities in the nearby Eagle Valley Reservoir and rainbow Canyon wilderness area.

Recreate Responsibly

Travel on Durable Surfaces
Stick to established trails. If there's no trail, try to walk on rock, gravel, or snow and spread out so that your group doesn't create a trail.
